It's Not Where You Start......

Royal Wedding

Life seems to have spun out of control again. I guess we're getting to that time of year when things go a bit mad if you have children. All three of my kids seem to be reaching key points in their lives at the same time and a lot of the preparations hit this week.

I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and longing to knit!

(Escapism at its finest!)

It all started with the Royal Wedding really. (Check out The British Monarchy's photo stream on Flickr!) We crawled bleary-eyed, out of bed at 1am on Friday morning and took up residence in the family room snuggled under our duvets. The Geek joined us by 2am, witnessing the ceremony, and then headed back to bed because she had to leave for a weekend Geology field trip by 8.30 am.

I had to drive her. (sigh)

We loved everything about the wedding (except Princess Beatrice's fascinator)! We loved the uniforms, the hats, the outfits, the wedding dress and the wonderful Aston Martin that Prince William drove his bride home to Clarence House in. The kids were thrilled that I'd got them up to watch it live and didn't mind missing school that day either. They are ofcourse British, and this was history in the making.

To top it all off, the sun finally shone this weekend after months of torrential rain! We all emerged from our homes to greet it like a long lost friend. The neighbourhood was buzzing with the sound of lawnmowers hard at work and excited children hard at play. The garden was tackled for the first time since last September and the only blot on the landscape was the financial aid package which arrived from Pacific Lutheran University.

Putting our kids through college will be a major challenge for us as a family, because we moved to the US from Norway, a country that provides Higher Education free of charge. With an international move, mere 6 years of credit history and a job loss to overcome, propelling our kids forward will take a lot of sacrifice.
We're determined to make it though.

This week has already seen the start of that.
The Geek has accepted her transfer scholarship offer to PLU, last night we visited The Little Guy's new Middle School and on Saturday Susielusie sits the SAT's.

Like William and Kate, we're moving on. Not in a fancy Aston, mind you....... more like a worn out white minivan........ but hey, as long as it goes, who cares!

After all, it's not where you start, it's where you finish that counts.

I'm sure that Miss Middleton, now the Duchess of Cambridge and future Queen of England, would agree with me.
